Hot Zone post 1
The first part of the book was just a lot of information, almost to the point where the author was saying the same things over in a different way. Otherwise his straightforward and descriptive style helped me really visualize the symptoms of Ebola. All I could think about was the wicked Witch of the West but in reverse- that is from the inside out. The idea of something that infectious being so volatile is also just horrifying, though I'm looking forward to seeing how the Reston outbreak will play out.
Scavenger Hunt post #3
Endotherm- An endotherm is an organism that generates heat to maintain its body temperature. Here is a Rhino laying in the sun to get warmer
Predation- It is the act of a predator eating its prey. Here is a tiger. A tiger is considered to be an apex predator in its region
Taxis- It is a behavioral response of an organism to a stimulus in its environment. Here is a bush that is goring towards the sun instead of straight up.
Population- It is a group of organisms of the same species living in the same geographical area. I couldn't find a bunch of the same fish but here is a mixture of some
Mating Behavior- It is the behavior of an organism to find a mate in order to reproduce. Here is a peacock. These birds are known to spread their feathers in order to catch the attention of a female.

This was a disappointing end to an amazing book. I am still confused about if the problem of the virus is dealt with in Washington, why would he go back to the place where the virus originated. The only part that i found thoroughly interesting was the very end. He goes back to the monkey house and notices that it can sustain life again. The eerie words " It will be back" make me wonder if this is going to happen again. All in all it was a great book!

This book is giving me fits. Every time I expect the situation to be resolved something happens. The moment they say that there is a hole in one of the suits my heart skips a beat. I think to myself "Uh-oh she going to get Ebola." Its like watching a scary movie. You see something and know something bad is about to happen. Its like the murderer is in the closet that they want to open. In the case of the book this is personified by the escaped monkey, or the cut on your finger from a scalpel. This part had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. really excited to see how it all ends.

Scavenger Hunt Post #2
Commensalism- the relationship between 2 organisms where one benefits while there is no effect on the other organism. This is a duck. They are known to clear areas for nesting for other animals.
Niche- a niche is an area where an organism is more comfortable living in its environment. Its hard to see but this is a birds nest
Cuticle Layer of a Plant- protective layer of a plant.
Territorial Behavior- This is the behavior of an animal to protect its surrounding areas with ferocity. This is a submerged hippo. They are known to be extremely territorial
Keystone Species- a keystone species is a species that has a large effect on its surrounding environment. This is a Giraffe. They eat a large part of the vegetation on the savannah.

Hot Zone part 2
This part really picks up the action. The way Preston is able to keep your attention to all the events that are going on is amazing. He makes you think way ahead of the plot. When the 2 guys wafted what they believed to be Marburg it felt as if you were in the lab dealing with their problem. The only thing about this part that confuses me is the fact that they waited so long to notify the CDC. They even talk about the outbreak as a possesion. Why wasn't the CDC notified initially? and why is the Army heading the defense against an outbreak?

Scavenger hunt!
2) adaptation of an animal - adaptation of an animal is where animals take on certain traits or habits in order for them to survive. Tug was tired and needed a spot on the couch. So he made one.
3)Amniotic Egg - This is an egg produced by either reptiles, birds, or mammals in which the embryo develops inside the egg, and its shell is eitercalium-based or leathery. EGGGG
4) adaptation of a plant - This is where plants have special features to help them survive. This plant has a sharp point at the top to keep predators away.
5) analogous Structure - Analogous Structures are parts of different animals that appear similar, but the animals did not come from the same ancestor. Both the bird and the dragonfly have wings, but they do not have common ancestors.
