Hot Zone Part 3
This part of the book was VERY suspenseful. You were always wondering what was going to happen next. And the fact that they were required to wear these spacesuits most of the time only added to the level of suspense. Like will said, I expected this section to be much more action packed. I don't believe it was a "let down", but I was a bit surprised. I can't wait to read the final part of this book.

Seed dispersal - this is pretty self explanatory! This is my puppy, she plays a roll in seed dispersal!
Xylem - this is basically a sponge straw that is In a plant or bush (anything with wood). It is a tissue that carries the water and nutrients from the roots to help create wood! Here is a tree!
Phloem- this does almost the same thing as the xylem, except instead of carrying nutrients from the roots, it carries sugars from the leaves. Here is another tree
Predation - this is the action of a predator doing it's attacking and predator business. Again, this is my dog. If anything hits the ground... Adios
Bateson mimicry - this is where a species has evolved to have colors so it blends into it's habitat for protection. Here, for the last time, is belle. She blends into the floor. This is not Bateson mimicry, but it's as good as it'll get folks.
Hot zone part 3
Okay, lets be honest, I was kinda looking forward to an action packed end to part three. It was a let down that the virus only effected the monkeys. But fun fact! This kid I play tennis with is related the hazletons that were in charge of the monkey shipping! Anyway, before the let down, It had me super stressed out. When that monkey got loose - just about lost it. Mrs. Lory, I am PUMPED for the virus section this year. My expectations are high... Just sayin'
Hot Zone Part 3
This part of the book was great! I love the constant question of who will be infected with the disease and the fact that they have to work in the spacesuit only seems to add to the stress. The fact that one hole could be enough to infect them is something that is extremely scary. It was an extremely suspenseful part and I can't wait for the resolution of the entire book.
Scavenger Hunt Post #6
Pollen is the powdery mess that makes you sneeze. The mess is made up of microspores. They are usually shed from anthers. This flower is an example that contains pollen.
CAM Plants have an adaption for a dry climate and don't need much water. They are usually found in hot, dry, climates for example desserts. CAM stands for Crassulacean- Acid- Metabolism. An example of a CAM plant is a cactus.
Scavenger Hunt Post 6
A CAM plant is plant that undergoes a type
of photosynthesis called crassulacean acid metabolism. In this type of
photosynthesis carbon dioxide is only taken up at night. This cactus is an example of a CAM plant.
Dominant vs. Recessive Phenotype: Phenotype is the physical or biochemical characteristic determined by the genetic make up. The blue eyes are the example of the recessive phenotype and the brown eyes are the dominant phenotype.
Connective tissue is a type of biological tissue that supports, connects or separates different types of organs and tissues. Cartlidge, tendons and ligaments are all examples of connective tissue. Here is a picture of a knee which has all of these three connective tissues in it.
Territorial behavior is the actions by which an animal or a group of animals protects its territory from other animals. Here is my dog "protecting" the house when somebody comes inside.
Seed dispersal is the movement of seeds away from the parent plant. Animals, wind and water all play a part in moving seeds from place to place.
