Scavenger Hunt #3 7/6/12
Different classes of proteins

Complete proteins contain all nine essential amino acids our bodies need to have in order to make new proteins. These nine amino acids can not be produced on its own in our body. Since amino acids are not stored in our body like carbs, we need the right kinds of amino acids to make new proteins each day. Meat is a perfect example of a complete protein.

Incomplete proteins are missing some of the nine essential amino acids needed to build new proteins. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are examples of incomplete proteins. They have some protein, but not enough to provide one with enough nutrients for a long term basis in order for that person to make new proteins each day and remain healthy.

 Different types of carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates break down in the body more slowly, so they provide for a more substantial source of energy. Rice, bread, and whole grains are examples of complex carbs. Eating whole grain toast for breakfast is much better than eating a sugary poptart because it will last with you longer and you will not feel hungry within an hour of leaving home!

Simple carbohydrates are sugars that are broken down very quickly. After they are broken down, they are absorbed into the bloodstream, and in return you feel that rush of energy. However, the rush does not last long as you feel later feel a crash of energy and need to consume some complex carbs to counteract the sugar crash!!

Phloem
In vascular plants, the phloem is the part of the plant that carries the plants nutrients to the different parts of the plant. These organic nutrients consist mostly of sucrose which is a sugar plants use as it's source of energy. The phloem is part of the stem of the plant.
