Scavenger Hunt Week 5

Hi guys. I am going out of town this week and thus decided to post my photos a little earlier. Enjoy.

This flower contains pollen. Pollen is similar to a male's sperm. (let's all be mature) The pollen comes from the male part of the plant and is transported by an insect or something of the sort to a different plant where it fertilizes the female part.

These are my dogs, Russell and Fluff. Russell is the older, brown one and Fluff is the younger, larger, white one. Since Fluff has been a puppy, Russell has taught him everything he has needed to know about dog behavior. This type of observation from what organism to the next is an example of Batesian Mimicry.

Commensalism occurs in a situation where two different species benefit from each other's presence. Here, this tree benefits from the vine because the vine keeps predators from harming its trunk. The vine benefits from the tree by receiving some support to grow on.

This bee/insect/whatever is a prime example of an animal with a segmented body. You can clearly see the head, thorax, and abdomen.

My little ant friend was going to be my example for an animal with a segmented body. But instead, I decided he could show us all altruistic behavior. Altruistic behavior occurs when an organism's behavior benefits others at a cost to itself. The main goal of an ant colony is to protect the queen, no matter what.

here is a link to the first ten minutes of the disney classic, "A Bug's Life". It's really a top-notch film, and all of my pictures felt like they had to do with this movie in some way. Even though they didn't.
