This dog is an example of a heterotroph. A heterotroph is an organism that relies on organic carbon for growth, and so must consume other organisms.
This is a frond or large, segmented leaf. The petiole of a frond, or the stalk, is called a stipe. all the blades of a frond are connected to the stipe by portions called rachis. Fronds are usually defined botanically as the leaves of ferns.
Pine cones are examples of gymnosperm cones. A gymnosperm is a type of plant in which the seeds grow without ovaries and are "naked" in a sense. These types of plants use cones and leaves to reproduce.
This tree is a vascular plant in which a type of tissue called phloem is found. Phloem acts as a transport tissue for vascular plants, transporting organic nutrients to different parts of the plant as needed.
Xylem, another type of transport tissue, is also found in trees and other vascular plants. Xylem has the job of transporting water and certain nutrients around the plant as needed.
