Scavenger Hunt Post #1

The vocabulary word I used for this picture is Archaebacteria. Archaebacteria is a unicellular microorganism that live in EXTREME conditions, Places so extreme such as a volcano or a deep ocean. They don't need oxygen or or light to live. I chose to take a picture of a oven because I am nowhere near a extreme condition, so I thought that an oven can get up to a very high degree so that is extreme!

The vocabulary word I used for this picture is Niche. Niche is the way of life of a species and how an organization or population responds to the distribution of resources. I chose to take a picture of a tomato because it is a resource that the population of the world uses. Tomatoes start out as a plant and they respond to the resources such as water and light, and use them to make tomatoes. Then the population (humans) respond with eating them.

The vocabulary word I used for this picture is Altruistic Behavior. Altruistic Behavior is the documented animal behavior where a animal sacrifices themselves for another animal. I took a picture of my sort of new puppy (Weezie) that is 4 months old and my lab (penny) that is about 5 years old. Penny acts like a mom to Weezie and sort of takes care of her.

The vocabulary word i chose for this picture is Adaptation of an animal. Adaptation of an animal is the features of a animal to help it survive. This picture is of a Daddy Long Leg. Their adaptations are it is brown so it can camouflage itself and it has thin legs and a small body which makes it hard to see them.

The vocabulary word i chose for the next two pictures is Xylem. Xylem is a type of transport tissue in vascular plants that transport water. Celery is a plant that has a xylem and you can see it very clearly. In biology a year ago we did a lab where you get a piece of celery and put it in colored water. When i was researching about xylems I thought that this would show the concept well!! The red water traveled up the xylems and you can see the red at the tip of the celery stick.

  1. Excellent connection on your xylem post! Hopefully you now also make the connections as to why we water plants at the soil level!
